VIDEO: Midnight Madness marriage proposal -- from a coach

Craig Heatherly was probably more nervous for Midnight Madness than any incoming freshman last week. Heatherly, an assistant men's basketball coach at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich., subjected himself to embarrassment -- even before asking the biggest question of his life.

Heatherly treated his girlfriend, Linaya Hass, the dance coach at Davenport, to a public proposal at last week's Midnight Madness. He was creative, as Hass has no idea that Heatherly was inside that mascot costume.

Backstory: The two have been dating for a little more than a year. Heatherly came up with the idea on his way back from a recruiting trip recently. He rigged the "dance-off" in order to have a tie. Then Hass would have to come down from the stands and ... break the tie? She had to dance on behalf of her team to win the title, basically. And, as you can see, she ends up dancing, Heatherly feigns injury and then rips off the head to reveal himself.

"It didn't seem real. Like, I was in complete shock," Hass told Grand Rapids' Fox 17.

"On Monday, she called me and said, 'I just got the script for the Midnight Madness. We're doing a dance-off! I am not doing it! Absolutely not!' And I'm thinking, 'Holy cow, you gotta do it,' " Heatherly told the news station. "I was like, 'Have some school spirit! This is for the university! Stop thinking about yourself!' "

The ruse was on and a success. The dance, then the reveal, the screams, the silence, the question and the immediate yes. Hallelujah, I love college basketball.

And then we get our first court-storm of the season! If ever there was a time for floor-rush in October, this is it. Congrats, you two lovebirds. Now get off the floor and find a room; we've got a season to start.
