Report: Tim Floyd meets with USC about maybe returning to USC

Former USC coach Tim Floyd told the Los Angeles Times late Monday that he had a meeting with USC athletic director Pat Haden in which the two discussed the Trojans' men's basketball job opening for three hours.

"[It] went well," Floyd said.

Haden declined comment to the Los Angeles Times.

Floyd coached USC from 2006 to 2009 and made three NCAA tournaments before resigning while the school faced allegations of improper conduct related to, among other things, its recruitment of O.J. Mayo. The NCAA ultimately cleared Floyd of wrongdoing.

"I feel like [people] should know that USC reached out, that no violations were found by the NCAA with USC basketball," Floyd told the paper.

So will Floyd be USC's next head coach?

It's probably too early to tell, and it should be noted that the Times reported Haden has also already interviewed Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins, who is the coach-in-waiting with the Orange. The issue with that is it's unclear how long Hopkins might have to wait to replace Jim Boeheim. So it's no surprise that he'd be interested.

The Floyd development is a surprise, though.

He's now the coach at UTEP.

The Miners will host No. 25 Memphis on Tuesday night on the CBS Sports Network.
