Incoming Wisconsin coach Andersen hopes OC Wells joins him

Wisconsin finally got its man in Utah State's Gary Andersen, and Andersen wants to take offensive coordinator Matt Wells with him to Madison, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. It's unclear at this point whether Wells would call plays for the Badgers.

Wells also could be a candidate to replace Andersen at Utah State, where Wells once played quarterback, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Involvement in the USU search could alter Wells' plans.

In Wells' first year as the Utah State's coordinator, the Aggies ranked 21st nationally with 469.1 yards per game and 33rd in scoring offense at 34.9 points per game. Wells joined Andersen's staff two years ago as quarterbacks coach.

Wells reportedly garnered interest for a job with NC State last week.

Andersen replaces Bret Bielema, who took the Arkansas job Dec. 4. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez targeted established head coaches during the search process, and Anderson fits that mold after an 11-2 season in 2012.
