Xavier's Dez Wells has bruised toe

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Kendall Marshall's fractured wrist isn't the only injury that could have an impact this week in the Sweet 16.

Xavier freshman forward Dez Wells suffered a toe injury on Sunday against Lehigh, playing just eight minutes before not returning.

Christian Jones, Wells' godfather, told CBSSports.com that it's a bruised big toe – no break – and they are optimistic for the regional semifinal against Baylor.

“It's just kind of like turf toe,” Jones said.

“Right now, he thinks he will be fine to play Friday. He has a walking boot on, X-rays were negative.”

Wells, a 6-foot-5 Raleigh native, averaged 10.2 points and 4.9 rebounds this season.
