UNC's Roy Williams preparing to play without Kendall Marshall

North Carolina coach Roy Williams said Tuesday that his Tar Heels do not plan to have Kendall Marshall available for Friday's Sweet Sixteen 16 matchup against Ohio.

"Our preparation is, 100 percent, to play without Kendall," Williams said. But it should be noted that Williams declined to go as far as to say that Marshall absolutely won't play Friday, and that the two-time national-championship coach grew frustrated when various reporters kept trying to make him answer one way or another.

Marshall broke his wrist in Sunday's win over Creighton, at which point a source close to the school told CBSSports.com that Marshall -- who is averaging 8.1 points and 9.8 assists per game -- would be "unlikely" to play in the Sweet 16. The CBSSports.com First Team All-American had surgery Monday. On Tuesday, another source told CBSSports.com that Marshall almost certainly won't play Friday against Ohio but that he "might" try to play Sunday if the Tar Heels advance to meet either Kansas or North Carolina State in the Elite Eight.

Freshman Stilman White is expected to start in Marshall's absence.

He's averaging just 4.3 minutes per game this season.
