Stevens spurns interest from Illinois, says he's staying at Butler

ATLANTA -- Brad Stevens will remain at Butler after becoming at least the second coach to spurn interest from Illinois.

"I am happy and extremely grateful to be the head coach at Butler University," Stevens said in a statement released Sunday. "I am already looking forward to next season and the start of our postseason workouts in April."

Sources have told CBSSports.com that Illinois reached out to Stevens via Parker Executive Search and that he quickly told the school he should not be considered a candidate to replace Bruce Weber. VCU's Shaka Smart did the same thing early last week, meaning college basketball's two brighest young coaching stars will now presumably stay put for at least another year.

What's next for Illinois?

Ohio's John Groce is the most obvious next candidate.

He has already been contacted.
