Southern Illinois hires Barry Hinson

Barry Hinson is back in the Missouri Valley.

Sources confirmed to that Hinson, who the head coach at Missouri State from 1999 to 2008, has been hired to replace Chris Lowery at Southern Illinois.

The news was reported by Todd Hefferman of the Southern Illinoisan.

Former Illinois coach Bruce Weber, who was at Southern Illinois, spurned the job.

Hinson has been the director of basketball operations with Bill Self at Kansas.
