Sources: Vandy assistant Muller now being considered by Mississippi State

NEW ORLEANS -- Vanderbilt assistant Dan Muller has emerged as a candidate for the opening at Mississippi State, multiples sources told CBSSports.com on Thursday.

Muller has been an assistant at Vandy the past 12 seasons.

It's unclear if he's already met with Mississippi State officials.

Mississippi State initially targeted Murray State's Steve Prohm, but Prohm signed an extension to remain the coach of the Racers. Sources told CBSSports.com that Valparaiso's Bryce Drew was also contacted about the job, but he withdrew his name from consideration late Wednesday, and sources said athletic director Scott Stricklin's attention has now turned to Muller.

Gary Parrish is a senior college basketball columnist for CBSSports.com and college basketball insider for the CBS Sports Network. The Mississippi native also hosts an award-winning radio show in Memphis. He lives in that area with his wife, two sons and two dogs.
