Alabama's Tony Mitchell could transfer or declare for draft

By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider

Alabama has parted ways with Tony Mitchell.

The talented 6-foot-6 junior was suspended back in early February and later dismissed from the team by Anthony Grant.

The school announced on Friday that Mitchell and teammate Charles Hankerson were given their release to look elsewhere.

However, sources indicate that Mitchell, who averaged 13.1 points and seven boards for the Crimson Tide this season, may wind up declaring for the NBA. The source told CBSSports.com that Mitchell still has work to do academically to be able to transfer to another school.

"He's keeping his options open right now," the source said. "He could transfer or could declare for the NBA."

One NBA executive told CBSSports.com that Mitchell could be a second-rounder or go undrafted and wind up playing overseas.
