Battle of the Pitinos: Rick vs. Richard

Richard Pitino (US Presswire)The Battle of the Pitinos. Rick vs. Richard.

It'll happen on Dec. 19 when the younger Pitino and his Florida International team travel to play his dad at Louisville at the Yum! Center.

Richard Pitino (pictured) just got the FIU job a couple of months ago while Rick, 59, has won more than 600 college games.

"I never got to spank you as a child, would you like to get a spanking this year?" Rick Pitino texted his son, according to the New York Daily News, shortly after taking over the program.

Richard's response to CBSSports.com:

"At FIU, we let our game do our talking. Not our mouths."

Louisville will enter the season as arguably the No. 1 preseason team in the country. FIU wasn't very good to begin with, winning just eight total games a year ago. The Panthers' top two scorers graduated and their third and fourth scorers left the program following the departure of Isiah Thomas.

This one has all the makings of a rout, but at least it should feature some quality, good-natured trash-talking.
