Rutgers transfer Austin Carroll received medical redshirt

Rutgers transfer Austin Carroll has received a medical redshirt and will have three years of eligibility left.

The 6-foot-4 Carroll played 10 games this past season due to lingering effects following meniscus surgery his freshman year.

"I had a great two years at Rutgers," Carroll told CBSSports.com. "I loved my teammates, loved everything about it. But I wanted to explore other options for the last couple of years."

Carroll said that American, Loyola (Md.), Penn, Rhode Island, Loyola Marymount and Towson have expressed interest. According to a source, there is also a chance he could receive a waiver and be able to play right away.

Carroll played double-digit minutes the last eight games of his freshman campaign and also scored 11 points earlier this season at Miami.
