Roschon Prince looks to represent for West coast

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Of the 110 or so prospects at the NBPA Top 100 Camp last weekend, only about 15 were from the West coast. California produces its fair share of high-level prospects, but there weren't many in attendance in Virginia.

Four-star wing Roschon Prince noticed that too.

“In a lot of the camps, there are not a lot of West coast guys,” Prince said. “I have to represent.”

Prince, a 6-foot-6 prospect from Poly (Calif.), did his best to make an impact after arriving late to the camp. He can get to the rim and knows how to finish against a variety of defenders, and he really attacks the basket well. Prince doesn't get rattled and is a solid defender.

With so many good players at the camp, Prince wanted to get to know some of the guys better – since they could be his future teammates. However, that didn't mean he was going to take it easy on opponents.

“I want to build chemistry with a lot of the players,” Prince said. “But I want to go at everyone, make a name for myself.”

Several Pac-12 schools are in pursuit of Prince, including Oregon, Washington, USC and Colorado, while other schools such as Miami (Fla.) and Gonzaga are also in the mix.

He took an unofficial visit to USC earlier this week, but he had previously taken trips to Oregon, Washington and San Diego State.

Most recently, Prince went to Eugene to check out Dana Altman's program.

“I got to walk around and see the facilities,” he said. “They have great facilities and there's a lot of things to do.”

Prince's high school team played a game at Washington earlier this year, and he said it was an honor to play on the Huskies' court. As for San Diego State, Prince watched the Aztecs play California last season.

“I got to see how they play, got to watch Steve Fisher coach,” he said.

Prince doesn't have any commitment plans for the near future, and he doesn't know which schools are next on the visit list.

“I'm not sure right now,” he said.
