Four-star point guard Jaren Sina chooses Northwestern

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Location clearly wasn't much of a factor in Jaren Sina's recruitment.

The New Jersey native originally pledged to Alabama, but reopened his options last October. On Monday, Sina decided he's once again leaving the East coast -- this time for the Midwest.

The 6-foot-2 point guard is off to Northwestern.

Sina, a Gill St. Bernard's (N.J.) product, chose the Wildcats over Rutgers and Seton Hall. Virginia and Pittsburgh were also previously in the mix. Sina spent some time in Chicago a couple of weeks ago, when he participated at the Deron Williams Skills Academy.

He's one of the best scorers at his position in the class of 2013, possessing tremendous range and a consistent stroke from behind the arc. Sina also has a high basketball IQ and can get his shot off in a variety of ways. Last season, he averaged 20.0 points and 8.4 assists in leading Gill St. Bernard to its second straight county title. His shooting ability should fit perfectly in Northwestern's 3-point-heavy system.
