UCLA dismisses leading shot-blocker Anthony Stover

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

UCLA is bringing in loads of new talent for the upcoming season, but the team's leading shot-blocker will not be returning.

On Monday, the Bruins dismissed Anthony Stover after the junior center was ruled academically ineligible by NCAA standards.

“We had high expectations for him, and we were looking forward to getting increased contributions from him during this coming season,” coach Ben Howland said in a statement.

Stover, a 6-foot-10 big man from Windward (Calif.), averaged 1.4 blocks last season, despite playing just 8.4 minutes per game. He provided depth on the inside behind Josh Smith, who played just 17.2 minutes per game due to conditioning and foul trouble.
