A-10 signs new eight-year television deal with ESPN, CBS, NBC

By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider

The Atlantic 10 television contract has been a sore subject with many of the league's coaches -- especially since the conference has now become a seventh high-major of sorts with the recent addition of Butler and VCU.

Well, the league announced on Tuesday that it has signed eight-year deals with ESPN, CBS Sports Network and the NBC Sports Group for its media and television rights.

Translation: More A-10 games will be on national TV.

"Our commitment to basketball at the highest level has allowed us to leverage our national exposure in the best way possible for the Atlantic 10," league commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade said in a statement. "Partnering with ESPN, CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network for the next eight years is truly a historic moment for the A-10 and its member institutions."

The agreements mean that nearly 150 games will be televised. There will be 30 potential appearances on the ESPN family of networks, 54 on CBS Sports Network and 50 on NBC Sports Network.

ESPN retains the rights to the men's and women's basketball championships, and has sublicensed the men's championship to CBS Sports since 2010.
