Stud point guard Solomon Poole could enroll at Georgia Tech after semester

Last year, it was Tennessee that received a boost when top-15 prospect Jarnell Stokes graduated high school early and enrolled in Knoxville after the first semester. Georgia Tech could do the same this season with Solomon Poole.

The plan for Poole is to finish his high school course work in December and then enroll at Georgia Tech after the first semester, sources told CBSSports.com.

“He is way ahead in school, so that is the plan,” one source said. “But he has a lot of work to do to graduate in December.”

Poole, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Parker (Fla.), is ranked No. 28 in the class of 2013. He committed to the Yellow Jackets in June.

"It's 50-50 right now," a source said. "The next three weeks we will have a much better idea."

Georgia Tech had a top-20 recruiting class in 2012, including five-star big man Robert Carter and top-100 guard Marcus Hunt. Adding Poole to that group would make Brian Gregory's group more dangerous on the offensive end. He's an athletic scorer who is excellent when driving to the rim.

Poole's older brother, Stacey, transferred to Georgia Tech last January after spending one season at Kentucky.

Gregory's first season in Atlanta was filled with struggles. The Yellow Jackets went just 11-20, finishing tied for ninth in the ACC. However, Glen Rice Jr. is the only key loss from last year's team.

If Poole can make an impact similar to Stokes, though, Georgia Tech certainly could improve. Stokes averaged 9.6 points and 7.4 rebounds in 17 games for the Volunteers last season. He helped Tennessee go 10-6 in the SEC and even put them on the NCAA tournament bubble down the stretch.
