Texas PG Myck Kabongo continues to sit out as NCAA investigates

As the NCAA continues to look into Texas point guard Myck Kabongo's relationship with an agent, the Longhorns will take a hit on the court.

The school announced Thursday that Kabongo would not play in the season opener on Friday against Fresno State, as everyone waits for the NCAA to rule on his eligibility.

Last month, CBSSports.com and Yahoo! Sports reported that the NCAA was investigating whether Kabongo had accepted impermissible benefits while working out in Ohio during the summer. He was working out with Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson, a long-time friend from Canada. However, they were working out with Jerry Powell, a trainer who is very close with agent Rich Paul.

Sources told CBSSports.com's Jeff Goodman that the NCAA was looking into whether Kabongo paid for his trip and lodging in Ohio.

Kabongo, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, averaged 9.6 points and 5.2 assists last season. He was inconsistent at times, but was expected to take the next step during the upcoming campaign.

Without Kabongo, it looks like freshman Javan Felix will run the show. He's been the starting point guard during the Longhorns' preseason scrimmages. Felix is a strong player who can initiate an offense and distribute the ball effectively.
