Hofstra's Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, UConn transfer, done for season

By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider

Hofstra coach Mo Cassara confirmed to CBSSports.com that UConn transfer Jamal Coombs-McDaniel won't play this season due to knee issues.

Coombs-McDaniel was slated to be an impact player for Cassara after sitting out last season, but was suspended for the start of the season and has been unable to practice due to lingering knee problems. He had surgery shortly after leaving UConn and another this past offseason.

The 6-foot-7 versatile forward averaged 5.6 points as a reserve on the national title team two years ago.

Cassara's team is now extremely thin -- with just seven scholarship players. The Pride lost Coombs-McDaniel and four players -- including talented freshman Jimmy Hall and Hawaii transfer Shaquille Stokes -- for the season after they were arrested and charged with dormitory burglaries.

Hofstra (3-8) plays Tulane on Saturday in New York.
