Today's Specials: Michigan State looks to keep pace in Big Ten race

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

There weren't a ton of games Tuesday, but wow, what a night. We saw Florida get steamrolled, Michigan outlast Ohio State in a classic, and Michael Snaer hit another game-winner. What does Wednesday have in store? Several bubble teams need to start making moves.
Note: All times are Eastern, and the rankings are according to the AP poll.
Best game: No. 18 Minnesota at No. 12 Michigan State (7 p.m, Big Ten Network). Yet another matchup between two top-20 teams in the Big Ten. Michigan State wants to prove it can be mentioned in the same breath as Indiana and Michigan, while Minnesota has won two in a row after its four-game losing streak. A win here for the Spartans would put them just a half-game out of first place in the standings. The key will be around the basket. Minnesota needs offensive rebounds, while Michigan State's frontcourt is getting better and better. Will guards Gary Harris and Travis Trice be healthy for the Spartans?
Second-best game: Baylor at No. 22 Oklahoma State (7 p.m., ESPN). Oklahoma State made a major statement on Saturday, going into Kansas and knocking off the Jayhawks. The win also changed the shape of the race for second place in the Big 12 (I still don't think anyone is going to catch Kansas). Meanwhile, Baylor went from a fairly comfortable spot to the bubble after losing back-to-back games to Oklahoma and Iowa State. The Bears need to bounce back in a major way. They did win the first meeting between these two teams, but Oklahoma State is at home and has momentum.
Another one to watch: No. 16 Creighton at Indiana State (7:05 p.m., ESPN3). With Wichita State losing three in a row, Creighton has taken control of the Missouri Valley race -- but Wednesday's road trip won't be easy. Indiana State has wins over Miami (Fla.), Ole Miss and Wichita State, and has won four of its last six (although the weekend loss to Drake is a killer). Another marquee win would be great for the at-large profile. No team has an answer for Doug McDermott, but the Sycamores have to limit Creighton's open perimeter jumpers.
Guaranteed win: I wouldn't want to be TCU on Wednesday night. The Horned Frogs are at home, but they are welcoming in a Kansas team that just lost to Oklahoma State in Phog Allen. The Jayhawks are going to be angry and looking to get back on the winning track (9 p.m., ESPNU). A TCU team that is winless in Big 12 play won't pose much of a challenge.
Potential upset: Cincinnati nearly blew a big lead agains Rutgers over the weekend, but the Bearcats are quietly building a resume worthy of a top-four seed. On Wednesday, though, Providence will pose a threat for the Bearcats (7 p.m., ESPN3). The battle on the offensive glass will be key, as both teams love to get second-chance opportunities. Providence guards the perimeter very well; can it stifle Cincinnati's 3-point shooting prowess?
Three things to keep an eye on:
  1. Another night, another couple of key games in the Mountain West. Air Force gets a chance to show it's for real with a trip to No. 15 New Mexico (9 p.m., ROOT Sports), while Boise State can make a statement at San Diego State (11 p.m., Regional TV).
  2. Charlotte has a gaudy yet impressive record, but the 49ers get to prove themselves at fellow bubble team Temple (7 p.m.).
  3. Connecticut and St. John's (7 p.m., ESPNU) used to be one of the better Big East games of the season. Now, St. John's needs a W to stay in the at-large mix, while UConn can play spoiler.
