The No. 1 team loses. Stop me if you heard this one before ...

Once again, the top-ranked team in the polls lost this week. Indiana blew a big lead late Thursday and lost to Illinois (which desperately needed the win). The Hoosiers will drop from the top spot, and already fell off the top line of the bracket.

For good measure, the No. 2 team also lost. Florida got smoked at Arkansas, on Tuesday, and also lost dropped a seed line.

Both teams are relative home court heroes, which is why I don't have them as high on my S-Curve as voters have them in the polls. I'm sure that won't change this week.

Did I mention the No. 5 team in the polls also lost? After having their 33-game home winning streak broken over the weekend, Kansas took out its frustrations on TCU's rims by heaving brick after brick at them in a historically embarrassing loss Wednesday to the Frogs.

In terms of RPI ratings, TCU's win over the Jayhawks was the biggest upset in the 20 years I have been tracking RPI data. I have read that it's not nearly as historic as measured by point spreads.

Kansas dropped two lines down to a 3-seed after the loss.

Replacing the Jayhawks and Hoosiers on the top line are Arizona and Miami. The ACC may not have much depth, but the Hurricanes' move up gives the league two No. 1 seeds for now.

The biggest downward mover in this bracket is Wichita State, which suffered its second straight bad loss at league cellar dweller Southern Illinois.

Speaking of the Missouri Valley, on the way back up is Team Schizophrenia, Indiana State. The Sycamores pounded Creighton at home for its fourth win over a tournament quality team. They need wins like that to make up for their four bad losses. ISU played a good non-conference schedule, and if it can find some consistency, should get rewarded for its efforts.
