What could have been a debilitating loss turned into a dramatic road win for uneven-all-season NC State on Sunday afternoon.
Scott Wood came off a screen against Clemson and hit a corner 3 to give the Wolfpack a 58-57 lead with one second remaining. Clemson couldn't convert its prayer attempt, and so NC State moved to 17-7 and above .500 (6-5) in the ACC, stopping a three-game losing skid in the process.
It was a big, needed win for NC State. Coming into the weekend, Jerry Palm projected it as a seven seed. A loss would've been 8/9 territory for sure, and although Mark Gottfried's gang isn't out of the woods yet, the preseason pick to win the ACC has the toughest portion of its schedule behind it.
NC State's three remaining road games are against North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Florida State, teams that are a combined 42-26. All four home games left are against teams not even close to being tournament-worthy.
