Tuesday brought about some immediate drama to conference tournament play. The first day of college hoops' postseason saw the Big South's tourney feature a 60-58 final between Winthrop over Radford in overtime; seven-win Longwood knocking off 16-15 UNC-Asheville; and Liberty, which was just 6-10 in the league this year, beating 9-7 Coastal Carolina, the tourney's host team/site.
The Horizon League had something to match that. Above, sixth-seeded Youngstown State gets the win over No. 7 Loyola 62-60 in the Horizon's first round thanks to D.J. Cole's fortunate shot falling just before time expires. And the famed Beeghly Physical Education Center goes nuts! Skip ahead to the one-minute mark to hear the radio call. Cole, who played all 40 minutes, finished with 13 points.
We should have known this was coming. YSU beat Loyola this year twice, both in the final seconds, by a combined three points. In case you hadn't heard, March is here and ready to take over your life.
OK, Wednesday. We're ready for you.
