Longwood coach Mike Gillian resigns

By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider

The latest college basketball opening comes from Longwood University after Mike Gillian's resignation.

Gillian has spent the past decade with the Lancers and took the program into the Division I ranks. Gillian, 48, racked up a career mark of 93-214 at the school.

"Mike has played an important role in the history of Longwood athletics," Longwood athletic director Troy Austin said in a statement. "I want to thank him for his service to the university, the effort he invested in the men's basketball program and his active involvement with community initiatives. I wish the best to Mike and his family in their future endeavors."

Longwood was 8-25 this past season and 4-12 in the Big South. The Lancers knocked off UNC-Asheville in the league tourney before losing to VMI.
