Pastner, candidate at USC and UCLA, agrees to extension with Memphis

Josh Pastner told CBSSports.com on Tuesday that he has agreed in principle to a contract extension with Memphis, which should end speculation that the 35-year-old will become the next coach at USC or UCLA.

"I love Memphis," Pastner told CBSSports.com. "I love my president, Dr. Shirley Raines. I love my athletic director, Tom Bowen. I love Tiger Nation. And I love my team. My focus has always been on Memphis."

This development is notable because Pastner was reportedly the top target at USC and "on the short list" of candidates at UCLA, a source told CBSSports.com. Another source added that USC actually contacted Pastner through a third-party representative to gauge his interest. Asked about this Tuesday, Pastner simply said, "I was never offered any job."

Pastner has made three NCAA tournaments in four years at Memphis.

The bulk of his team is expected to return next season.

He has a top-ranked recruiting class set to enroll, too.
