UMKC gets looks from Missouri Valley

The Missouri Valley Conference has looked at Missouri-Kansas City as a possible replacement for recently departed Creighton, a source with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com

While interest in UMKC was termed perhaps preliminary at best and in the early stages at the moment, the conference is actively seeking what most likely will be a Midwest replacement for Creighton, which announced earlier this month it is leaving for the Big East.

Other schools mentioned for the Valley -- Belmont and Oral Roberts -- aren't believed to be serious candidates at the moment.

Also earlier this month, UMKC announced it was leaving the Summit League to join the WAC. The school has played Division I basketball since 1987 and has never been to the NCAA tournament. It recently hired Louisville assistant Kareem Richardson.

Creighton was a Valley member 1928-48 then again from 1975 through July 1, 2013, when it will formally withdraw to go to the Big East. Current or former members of the Missouri Valley Conference (32) comprise eight percent of Division I schools.
