NC State exodus continues with Purvis transfer

By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider

NC State is losing its entire starting five from the beginning of the season.

Richard Howell and Scott Wood both graduated, Lorenzo Brown and C.J. Leslie have both declared for the NBA Draft and now freshman Rodney Purvis is transferring. Joe Giglio was the first to break the news on Monday afternoon and Purvis later tweeted, "Tears won't stop falling. I enjoyed every moment here. I still love you guys, no matter how you may feel towards me. Thank y'all."

The 6-foot-2 shooting guard played 25.5 minutes per game as a freshman on a veteran team, but wasn't content with his role, averaging just seven shots per contest, sources told CBSSports.com. The McDonald's All-American started most of the season before coming off the bench at the end of the year.

NC State was tabbed to win the ACC in the preseason, but the Wolfpack failed to live up to the expectations, tied for fourth in the league and were knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Temple in the round of 64.

Sources told CBSSports.com that fellow freshman T.J. Warren is expected to remain in Raleigh. Coach Mark Gottfried will also bring in another talented recruiting class, one that includes a trio of Top 100 players: point guard Cat Barber and big men Kyle Washington and BeeJay Anya.
