Eddie Biedenbach steps down at UNCA, takes UNCW assistant job

Eddie Biedenbach is stepping down as the head coach of UNC Asheville to join the UNC Wilmington staff as an assistant coach.

Biedenbach has spent the last 17 seasons at Asheville, becoming the all-time winningest coach in the Big South. He went to the NCAA tournament in 2011 and 2012, after going without an appearance since 2003. Biedenbach guided UNCA to a top-four league finish in 13 of his 17 seasons at the helm.

“I've known Eddie for a long time and have always had tremendous respect for the job he's done through the years,” Wilmington head coach Buzz Peterson said in a statement. “He's an outstanding Xs and Os coach and has a lot of personal integrity. I was looking for someone with head coaching experience, and Eddie's track record speaks for itself.”

Biedenbach has a house in the Wilmington area and has ties to the school, according to sources.

UNCW still has one assistant coach spot available, as both Jamie Kachmarik and Dante Calabria were let go after the season.
