Rick Pitino elected to Hall of Fame

ATLANTA -- Louisville coach Rick Pitino has been elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, a source confirmed to CBSSports.com early Friday.

An official announcement will be made Monday.

Ian O'Connor first reported the news.

Pitino is here at the Georgia Dome preparing to coach in his second consecutive Final Four and seventh overall. He's the only man to officially take three different schools to the Final Four. Those schools are Providence, Kentucky and Louisville. The 60-year-old's career record as a college coach is 662-239. He's also spent time in the NBA.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held in September.
