NC State transfer Rodney Purvis decides on UConn

As soon as Rodney Purvis received his release from North Carolina State on Monday, the word already began to spread that he was headed to Connecticut.

On Friday, he made it official, making the decision to suit up for the Huskies.

The story was first reported by the Raleigh News & Observer, and confirmed by multiple sources to CBSSports.com.

Purvis, a 6-foot-3 guard, was a McDonald's All-American coming out of high school, and a prized recruit for NC State coach Mark Gottfried. However, he never seemed to hit his stride for the Wolfpack, despite starting 23 games. He averaged 8.3 points on the season, but never played more than 20 minutes in the last five games. During that final five-game stretch, Purvis averaged just 4.0 points.

Connecticut was one of the finalists for Purvis when the five-star prospect made his decision in the fall of 2011.

Purvis has to sit out the upcoming season, but will combine with Ryan Boatright and Omar Calhoun in a talented perimeter group in 2014-15.
