Ball State hires new coach, Arizona assistant James Whitford

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

Ball State has found its new coach.

The school has hired Arizona assistant James Whitford, according to sources. Our Jeff Goodman was the first to report it. Whitford has been with Arizona since 2009 as an associate head coach.

The 41-year-old Wisconsin grad had previously served as an assistant at Miami (Ohio) and Xavier.

Ball State went 15-15 in both of the past two seasons under Billy Taylor and did not make an NCAA tournament in his six-year tenure. Taylor was fired March 14. A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.
