By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Loyola (Md.) will promote G.G. Smith as its new head coach, sources confirmed to CBSSports.com.

Smith has been an assistant with the Greyhounds for six seasons. He will replace Jimmy Patsos, who left Loyola for Siena after nine seasons in Baltimore.

Smith is the son of Texas Tech head coach Tubby Smith and played for two seasons under his father at Georgia in the late '90s. Before arriving at Loyola, Smith was an assistant at Johns Hopkins, Armstrong Atlantic State and Tennessee Tech.

Loyola went 23-12 this season and reached the NCAA tournament in 2012.
