First you paint the court. Then you poach the coach.

Anthony Evans, the Norfolk State coach who took the 15th-seeded Spartans to the Round of 32 in 2012 after upsetting Missouri, will become Florida International's next coach, sources confirmed to CBSSports.com on Monday.

The news was first reported by the Virginian-Pilot and the Washington Post.

The job became open after Richard Pitino left the school after one season to become head coach at Minnesota. It's a tough gig because FIU is expected to be under APR penalty from the NCAA due to bad grades/graduation rates. So, it's a bit of a project job as FIU heads next season to a new home, Conference USA.

Pitino coached the program to an 18-14 record last year; Evans averaged 17 wins and made one NCAA tournament in his six years with NSU.

Evans' team was undefeated in the MEAC this season but fell in the conference tournament and then lost in the first round of the NIT to Virginia. Evans will be replaced at NSU by associate head coach Robert Jones as the interim coach for next season, sources told CBSSports.com's Jeff Goodman.
