Michigan State could be ranked second in the preseason and picked to win the Big Ten. Or the Spartans might be a borderline top 20 team down three of its top four scorers.
What will they do?
Their decisions about whether to enter the NBA Draft or return to school are important to Michigan State specifically and the nation in general because those developments genuinely could create or crumble a contender. Sources told CBSSports.com it remains unclear, at the moment, how things will go. But, the sources said, Harris is "definitely leaning" toward returning to school while Payne remains "50-50" or "up in the air."
Harris, a freshman, averaged 12.9 points this season. He would project as a lottery pick if he entered the draft. Payne, a junior, averaged 10.5 points and 7.6 rebounds this season. He would project as a borderline first-round pick if he entered the draft.
Underclassmen have until April 28 to make a final decision.
