Former Arizona PG Josiah Turner receives punishment for DUI

Josiah Turner, the former point guard at Arizona who played just 29 games for the Wildcats, was sentenced to two days in jail and fined $1,529 on Monday. The sentencing wrapped up a DUI case from just before Turner's departure from Arizona last year, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

Turner has been a cautionary tale for college hoops. He didn't get on with Sean Miller at Arizona, so he transferred in the spring of 2012. He decided to hop on at SMU and join Larry Brown -- for approximately two months. He did not see any action for SMU. Turner then opted to go pro.

From the Daily Star, here is some background from the incident on April 26, 2012, in Tucson, Ariz.

Turner pleaded guilty to a general charge of driving under the influence but six other charges, including DUI with a blood-alcohol level between .15 and .19, were dismissed. Turner was arrested on April 26, 2012, by UA police, who said he recorded blood-alcohol levels of .15 and .16, which are at and above the extreme DUI threshold.

Turner is scheduled to be released from Pima County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.

Once Turner left SMU last July, he had no other real options to join another program, so he left college altogether. The past nine months have seen him toil with three teams -- first with a Hungarian pro club (Albacomp), then with the Halifax Rainmen (Canadian National Basketball League) and most recently with the Summerside Storm of Prince Edward Island.

Turner announced last week he'd be putting his name in the 2013 NBA Draft pool. He is not forecast to be selected by any team.
