Seven-footer Dewayne Dedmon leaves USC for NBA

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Seven-footer Dewayne Dedmon announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving USC and heading to the NBA Draft.

Dedmon, a junior center from Lancaster, Calif., averaged 6.7 points and 7.0 rebounds this past season, also blocking better than two shots per game.

"It's just my time to chase my dream and go to the NBA," Dedmon said in a statement. "I had a great time at USC and it was a good experience. I had some ups and downs and learned a lot and believe it is best for me to turn professional at this time. I wish USC, Andy Enfield and all my teammates all the best moving forward. Andy is a good guy and I believe he will do great things here."

Dedmon was suspended for the final game of USC's season, but he showed improvement during his second season with the Trojans. His offensive game isn't there yet and he gets in foul trouble too often, but he does have potential to be a factor. After all, he only began playing basketball six years ago.

Without Dedmon to anchor the interior, USC will look to the perimeter duo of J.T. Terrell and Byron Wesley for most of its offense.
