Detroit's McCallum headed to the NBA

By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider

Detroit junior point guard Ray McCallum is leaving his dad and heading to the NBA.

Little Ray opted to play for his father instead of going to any of several high-major programs -- including UCLA and Arizona. He was the Horizon League player of the year this past season and averaged 18.7 points and 4.5 assists. He finishes his college career with 1,618 points in three seasons and took the Titans to the NCAA tournament in 2012 and the NIT this past year.

“I want to thank the University of Detroit Mercy, my coaching staff and my teammates. I've enjoyed my three years with them,” McCallum said in a statement released by the university. “It has been very special playing for my father and helping to build the basketball program to a championship level.”
