With the new Big East retaining the rights to host its postseason tournament at Madison Square Garden, the question lingers: where will the American Athletic Conference play its bracketed basketball?

The league, which will be comprised of the other half of the Big East (UConn, Cincinnati, Memphis, Temple, South Florida, Central Florida, among others), could get a shot to keep the postseason tournament in the northeast -- but even further up the coast. Mohegan Sun, which is a casino/resort in the remote location of Montville, Conn., has put out a bid to be the host come next March.

The New London Day reports:

The sources said Mohegan has already alerted league officials of their interest and would have a formal offer early next week.

Mohegan Sun Arena is attached to the general concourse of the resort and is the home arena for the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. The past two years have seen the site host college basketball's Hall of Fame Tipoff. (Here's the field for next November's tourney there.)

Playing in casinos has proved to be no speed bump for leagues, which have flocked to Atlantic City and Las Vegas. In fact, Vegas hosted four postseason conference tournaments this past March.
