Memphis transfer Antonio Barton to announce new school on Sunday

Memphis transfer Antonio Barton told early Wednesday that he'll announce on Sunday where he'll play his final year of college basketball next season. He said he'll pick between Kansas State, Maryland, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Barton, a 6-foot-2 guard, is transferring in search of more playing time. The Baltimore native averaged a career-low 16.7 minutes per game this past season because of the emergence of fellow guards Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford and Geron Johnson, each of whom is returning to the Tigers next season. Barton will be eligible to play immediately because he'll graduate before the start of the fall semester.

Maryland is an option because of its proximity to Barton's home. Texas A&M is an option because former Memphis assistant Glynn Cyprien, who recruited Barton out of high school, is now Billy Kennedy's associate head coach with the Aggies. KSU and Tennessee are options because both need a point guard. KSU lost Angel Rodriguez to a transfer (to Miami). UT dismissed Trae Golden earlier this month.

Barton has visited Maryland and Texas A&M.
