Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year transfers to elite junior college

Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year Stephen Hurt is transferring from Lipscomb to Northwest Florida State, Raiders coach Steve Forbes told CBSSports.com on Saturday. The 6-foot-10 forward's move to the junior college ranks will allow him to play immediately (rather than sit out a year per NCAA transfer rules) and make Hurt one of the top junior college prospects in the Class of 2014.

"His improvement since high school is off the charts," Forbes said. "He'll be heavily recruited at the high-major level."

Hurt averaged 11.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for Lipscomb. The Tennessee native asked for a release after Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson resigned in April. Sanderson was replaced by Casey Alexander, a longtime Belmont assistant.
