Former Missouri guard Michael Dixon transfers to Memphis

Former Missouri guard Michael Dixon visited the Memphis campus Tuesday and verbally committed to the Tigers, a source told CBSSports.com early Tuesday.

Dixon confirmed the news to ESPN.com on Wednesday night.

He'll start classes at Memphis on Thursday.

Dixon averaged 13.5 points per game as a junior during the 2011-12 season but was essentially dismissed from the program last year after he was accused of sexual assault for a second time by a second woman. The Kansas City native never faced criminal charges, which, a source told CBSSports.com, is among the reasons Memphis coach Josh Pastner feels comfortable enrolling him. A source added that Dixon will apply for a NCAA waiver to play immediately. It should be noted Dez Wells received a waiver under similar circumstances when he transferred from Xavier to Maryland.

Memphis is ranked 15th in the preseason Top 25 (and one).

The Tigers return three double-digit scorers from a 31-win team.
