American Athletic Conference gets two teams in Jimmy V Classic

The matchups for this year's Jimmy V Classic have been finalized.

The doubleheader scheduled for Dec. 17 looks like this:

Florida-Memphis is obviously the headliner (that's why it's, you know, headlining) because it's a game between two nationally relevant programs, both of which are ranked in the CBSSports.com preseason Top 25 (and one). Florida is ranked fifth. Memphis is ranked 15th. The only question about that game now is exactly which players will be involved?

Will Florida signee Chris Walker be there? He's still trying to meet minimum academic requirements for freshman eligibility. What about Memphis signees Kuran Iverson and Pookie Powell? Both are, like Walker, still trying to become academically eligible.

And then there's Missouri transfer Michael Dixon.

Will he enroll at Memphis this week?

If so, will the NCAA grant him a waiver to play immediately?

Either way, this figures to be a big night for these four programs and a monumental moment for the American Athletic Conference. The first-year league will be represented by two schools (Cincinnati and Memphis) in what is arguably college basketball's most notable early season event. That'll be a nice way for The American to introduce itself to America -- and let folks get familar with that new logo.
