Report: North Carolina's P.J. Hairston arrested on drug charges

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

North Carolina wing P.J. Hairston, who emerged last season as a consistent offensive threat, was arrested Wednesday night on drug charges, according to ABC11 in Raleigh/Durham, N.C.

North Carolina gave ABC11 a brief statement:

"We are aware of the situation involving one of our athletes," UNC Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications Steve Kirschner said. "We are still gathering information and may comment further later."

Hariston, a 6-foot-5 rising junior, averaged 14.6 points last season and was poised for a breakout season for the Tar Heels. In fact, he was getting some mentions for All-ACC consideration.

Update: WRAL is reporting Hairston was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.
