Florida point guard Scottie Wilbekin suspended indefinitely

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Florida guard Scottie Wilbekin has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, the school announced on Monday afternoon.

No further details were made available.

Wilbekin, a 6-foot-2 rising senior from Gainesville, averaged 9.1 points and 5.0 assists last season for the Gators. His emergence was one of the main reasons for Florida's 29-8 campaign, as Wilbekin became a defensive stopper in the backcourt and a quality playmaker on the offensive end.

This isn't the first time Wilbekin has been suspended. Right before the beginning of last season, head coach Billy Donovan announced that Wilbekin was suspended indefinitely for an undisclosed reason. He ended up missing the first three games of the season, returning on November 18 against Middle Tennessee.

Donovan is thin in the backcourt this season, although Rutgers transfer Eli Carter is expected to get a waiver to play immediately. However, the Gators do have a very capable point guard option in freshman Kasey Hill, a five-star prospect from the class of 2013. Hill is extremely fast and is an elite playmaker.

Florida is ranked No. 5 in the CBSSports.com Top 25 (and one).
