When reports broke two weeks ago that Trevor Lacey was headed to North Carolina State, it only seemed a matter of time before it would become official. At the time, Lacey denied that he was a done deal to the Wolfpack.
However, sources informed CBSSports.com that the Alabama transfer sent his papers in on Monday afternoon and is officially heading to NC State.
Miami and Pittsburgh were also squarely in the mix for Lacey's services, although the Hurricanes likely bowed out when Texas transfer Sheldon McClellan committed late Sunday night.
Lacey, a talented 6-foot-3 shooting guard, left the Crimson Tide in April after starting all 36 games and averaging 11.3 points. He also dished out 3.2 assists per game, while shooting better than 37 percent from behind the arc.
NC State will likely take a step back this season, as all five starters are gone from the 2012-13 campaign. There is only one senior on the roster for this fall, though, redshirt big man Jordan Vandenberg. With everyone returning in 2014-15, plus the addition of Lacey as a scorer on the wing, Gottfried could have the Wolfpack back in the mix in the ACC.
