Villanova gets off to early start in 2015 with Tim Delaney's pledge

Villanova has carved out a reputation over the past decade as a place where guards can go and have the freedom to make plays. Looking at the Wildcats' roster, though, there will be a dearth of bigs in a couple of seasons.

As a result, Jay Wright and his staff needed to get an early start on the 2015 class -- and they accomplished that on Wednesday.

According to multiple sources, Villanova picked up a commitment from Tim Delaney. His AAU coach also confirmed the news.

"Villanova gives him the opportunity to play basketballl at a high level in the new Big East," Matt Pauls of We R 1 told CBSSports.com. "He really likes the academic environment and he connected with coach Wright and the coaching staff and players."

Delaney, a 6-foot-8 power forward from Pitman High School (N.J.), visited the Philadelphia-area campus recently and had also taken trips to Indiana and Butler. Penn State, Oregon State and Rutgers had each already offered. In the end, Delaney wanted to stay closer to home.

Playing for We R 1 on the AAU circuit, Delaney showed off his ability to make tough plays in the paint. He plays hard and doesn't mind banging on the low block, crashing the glass and getting position on the offensive end. His face-up range is also steadily improving.

Delaney is Villanova's first commitment from the class of 2015. The Wildcats have zero pledges from the class of 2014.
