Duke F Rodney Hood injures Achilles; leaves USA Basketball

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

Duke forward Rodney Hood, who injured his right Achilles tendon Wednesday night while practicing with USA Basketball in the lead up to the World University Games, will no longer be able to play for USA Basketball.

That means the 16 finalists are now down to 15. The final roster cut will happen this weekend.

“I feel so sorry for Rodney,” Team USA coach Bob McKillop said. “He committed himself fully to be a part of this team, and we will miss him. He would have been a valuable team member for USA Basketball.”

Hood's injury, according to sources, isn't believed to be extremely serious.

Hood, a redshirt sophomore, transferred to Duke from Mississippi State and is eligible to play next season.
