Oregon adds high-scoring transfer Joseph Young from Houston

Former Houston guard Joseph Young has canceled a planned visit to Arizona and decided to end his recruitment by transferring to Oregon, a source told CBSSports.com on Friday.

This development, initially reported by Oregon.247Sports.com, is the byproduct of Houston coach James Dickey asking Young's father, Michael Young, to accept a reassignment from director of basketball operations to a lesser role within the athletic department. Michael Young refused the assignment, left Houston and essentially took his son with him, at which point Joseph Young became one of the nation's most desirable transfers thanks, in part, to the fact that he averaged 18.0 points per game last season.

Now to the new question: Will Young be eligible this season?

A source told CBSSports.com that Oregon will apply for a waiver for Young to play immediately based on the idea that he left Houston only because his father lost his job at the school. It's a long shot, probably. But it should be noted the NCAA last year granted Trey Zeigler a waiver to play immediately when he left Central Michigan for Pittsburgh because his father, Ernie Zeigler, lost his job as the head coach at CMU.
