Mississippi Valley State suspends coach Chico Potts after arrest

By Matt Norlander | Staff Writer

Mississippi Valley State has suspended its head coach after he was arrested and charged in a domestic violence case, per multiple reports. The school announced the suspension Friday morning.

Chico Potts, 37, will be replaced indefinitely by assistant coach Marcus Thomas. Potts' suspension will include pay. Potts' arrest reportedly came earlier this month.

Jennifer Freeman, interim director of communications and marketing for MVSU, said via statement that Potts will remain on suspension until the university completes its investigation into the matter.

The Delta Devils, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, went 5-23 last season, Potts' first as head coach of the program.
