The stew of boredom mixed with inspiration that the Internet can inspire is sometimes too hilarious.
All credit to Hayes Permar for creating what can be our college basketball Hit of the Summer. "Bet P.J.'s back for Kentucky" has me laughing my goofy rear off all alone in my apartment. The parody song is obliquely set to the the music of Daft Punk's 2013 megahit "Get Lucky." (The first mainstream summer song that I've genuinely loved in I don't know how long. Maybe since Hootie!)
The catalyst for the parody is North Carolina star forward P.J. Hairston, whose ongoing saga has taken up a lot of space on this blog this summer. Hairston was arrested on drug charges in early June, caught in a traffic stop with two other men. None of the allegations brought forth in this song have been proven.
Earlier this week, UNC coach Roy Williams issued a lengthy formal statement on the matter. Williams said he'll deliver "serious consequences" to Hairston down the road, after the legal process is sorted out.
And, if you're wondering, Kentucky-North Carolina gets played Dec. 14 in Chapel Hill.
