Butler announced Friday afternoon that junior forward Roosevelt Jones will miss the 2013-14 season after injuring his left wrist.

Jones and the team just returned from an overseas exhibition trip to Australia, and it's there where Jones tore ligaments in his wrist. Butler head athletic trainer Ryan Galloy said in a statement the damage requires season-ending surgery.

"His prognosis is good and he's expected to make a full recovery for next season," Galloy added.

The injury actually occurred 10 days ago during Butler's first game of the trip. Jones didn't play in the three ensuing exhibitions. Once the team returned stateside, further examination deemed surgery to be necessary.

"Roosevelt is a tough-minded, determined young man, and I am confident he will return from this adversity an even better player and person," new Bulldogs coach Brandon Miller said in a statement. "Despite not playing, Roosevelt will continue to have an impact in leading this team as we move forward."

At 6-4, Jones is an aggressive, undersized forward for Butler. He put up 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds last season, both team-highs heading into this year. His 3.5 assists per game were also a Bulldogs best. This is the second significant blow to the program this offseason, albeit the first from a player standpoint. In early July Brad Stevens surprisingly took the head coaching job of the Boston Celtics, allowing Miller to be promoted from his post as assistant.

Jones was the only player on the team last season to start every game, and is most known for his game-winning shot last season over Gonzaga.
